[Recommendations - Diagnosis of uncomplicated cirrhosis]

2008

For confirmation of the diagnosis of cirrhosis without complication, the use of FibroMeter and FibroScan are recommended in patients with isolated chronic hepatitis C never treated and without co-morbidities. The use of FibroScan is also recommended in patients with HIV-HCV co-infection provided that the precaution of use and interpretation of the results are taken. In the published studies, a liver stiffness superior to 13-15 kPa strongly suggests the diagnosis of cirrhosis is the two aforementioned indications.
